Abia State Governor, Theodore Orji on Friday at a civic
reception in honour of the former Managing Director of Diamond Bank Plc,
Dr Alex Otti, called on Nigerians to pray for the country before the
2015 general election.
The governor, who urged Nigerians to pray for peace and unity said:
“We should pray for the continued corporate existence of Nigeria so that
the 2015 general election will be held in a peaceful atmosphere.”
Orji
while commending Otti for his humanitarian services, described the
former managing director as a good man, and went ahead to urged
well-meaning Nigerians to use their God-given positions to affect the
lives of others in order for people to speak well of them.
Speaking
also at the ceremony, the traditional ruler of Okohia Autonomous
Community, Eze Okechukwu Ananaba, revealed that the reception was
organised to appreciate Otti’s remarkable contributions to the
development of Ngwaland for the past 25 years.
Ananaba,
who also doubles as the spokesperson of the traditional rulers, pointed
out that Otti excelled in his banking career and used his innovations
at Diamond Bank as example.
Responding, the former bank manager commended the traditional rulers for honouring him with such reception.
Otti was later conferred with the chieftaincy title of ‘’Ugwu Ngwa 1 of Ngwaland’’ which means; the pride of Ngwaland.
Alex
Otti graduated from the University of Port Harcourt with a First Class
Honours Degree in Economics in 1988. He subsequently received an MBA
from the University of Lagos in 1994. At the University of Port
Harcourt, he was the best graduating student in the Department of
Economics and won the subject prize.
He was also the
best graduating student in the Faculty of Social Sciences and won the
Dean's Prize, as well as the overall Best Graduating Student for the
Year and Valedictorian. He started his banking career with Nigeria
International Bank Limited, a subsidiary of Citibank N.Y. in 1989 where
he worked in the Operations Department.
Nigeria’s
first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, was represented at the occasion by
the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Millennium Development
Goals (MDGs), Mrs Precious Gbeneol.
Other dignitaries
at the event include; Mr Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra
State, Igwe Alfred Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, the former Chief of Army
Staff, retired Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, as well as Dr Walter
Ofonagoro, the former Minister of Information.
The
reception was organised by the Federation of All Traditional Rulers
of Ngwa at Umueleghele in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.
