Delta Airlines apologizes for tweet depicting Ghana with a Giraffe

After the Ghana vs US match last night, Delta Airlines tweeted a pic of a giraffe depicting Ghana while they used a pic of the Statue of Liberty to depict the US. Well, many Ghanaian didn't appreciate that and came for Delta Airlines on twitter.

The airline company had no choice but to apologize

Military arrests 486 suspected Boko Haram members in Abia

Not less than 486 suspected Boko Haram members including eight women were arrested by the military personnel of the 144 battalion of the Nigerian Army with base at Asa in Ukwa West council of Abia State. Full report below...
Abia State Information Commissioner, Chief Eze Chikamnayo, who took some reporters to the military camp yesterday to see the suspects said they were arrested around 3:00 a.m. on Sunday along Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway at Arongwa area called Imo Gate, which is a boundary between Abia and Rivers states.
He said that the suspects whose ages were from 15 years were traveling on 35 buses from undisclosed northern states to the South South.  He said that they claimed to be going to search for jobs, adding that two of the buses later escaped. Continue...
The commissioner spoke in the presence of the Battalion Commander, Lt. Colonel Rasheed Omolori, whose only comment was that the report had already been sent to his headquarter.
It was also disclosed that somebody whose name was not made known, had come to secure the release of the suspects but was arrested and detained.
Reacting to the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer ( PPRO),  Mr. Geoffery Ogbonna,  said  that  the matter was a military one and had not been reported to the police command. He said that when he contacted the Army Public Relations Officer in the state whose name he did not mention, he told him (PPRO)  that he was not yet aware of  the matter. And following the bomb found on the premises and inside the Living Faith Church (a.k.a Winners Chapel), Port Harcourt Road, Owerri, capital city of Imo State, the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha,  in conjunction with security chiefs yesterday launched what he called “Operation Know Your Neighbour.”
The occasion was attended by a cross section of stakeholders in the state amid heavy security.
  The meeting resolved as follows:
“. Hotels in the state should install security cameras and on daily basis always forward the list of their guests to the Director of SSS.
 “. Trailers bringing food items from the North would no longer be allowed to come into the state at night but only in the day, and the food items would be off-loaded at a designated place off the state capital.
 “. Residents in the state must also be careful with broken bottles, cans, leather bags, parked tankers and vehicles around their homes, public places and public buildings.
“.  Traditional rulers in the state were directed to summon emergency meetings of their various communities to take stock of strange faces living with them.
 “. Uncompleted buildings in the cities in the state and environs without security guards will be taken over by the government because criminals use them as hideouts.
“. Lands left fallow for several years and not used for any economic or gainful purpose but taken over by criminals will be seized by the government
“. Smoking of Indian hemp was also banned.
“.  A meeting of all non-indigenes in the state has also been fixed.”

Abia State Governor Urges Nigerian Immigration Service To Ensure Illegal Immigrants Are Flush Out Of The State

The governor was speaking while receiving the new comptroller of immigration posted to the state. The governor, who observed that the issue of illegal immigrants is not peculiar to the state, said that some of them have been involved in criminal activities.

Theodore, said, “Make sure that we fish out this people. There are many of them working in factories in Aba without papers, so you don’t know their intentions. So the best thing to do is when such people are apprehend, they should go back to wherever they have come from and it is our duty as government to encourage you, to give you the enablement so that you will work.”

The new controller, Anthonia Opara, restated the command’s determination to flush out all illegal immigrants in the state. She revealed that the command has already repatriated seven hundred illegal immigrants from Abia state.

Governor Orji Calls For Prayers For Nigeria

Abia State Governor, Theodore Orji on Friday at a civic reception in honour of the former Managing Director of Diamond Bank Plc, Dr Alex Otti, called on Nigerians to pray for the country before the 2015 general election. 

The governor, who urged Nigerians to pray for peace and unity said: “We should pray for the continued corporate existence of Nigeria so that the 2015 general election will be held in a peaceful atmosphere.”  
Orji while commending Otti for his humanitarian services, described the former managing director as a good man, and went ahead to urged well-meaning Nigerians to use their God-given positions to affect the lives of others in order for people to speak well of them.
Speaking also at the ceremony, the traditional ruler of Okohia Autonomous Community, Eze Okechukwu Ananaba, revealed that the reception was organised to appreciate Otti’s remarkable contributions to the development of Ngwaland for the past 25 years.
Ananaba, who also doubles as the spokesperson of the traditional rulers, pointed out that Otti excelled in his banking career and used his innovations at Diamond Bank as example.  
Responding, the former bank manager commended the traditional rulers for honouring him with such reception.
Otti was later conferred with the chieftaincy title of ‘’Ugwu Ngwa 1 of Ngwaland’’ which means; the pride of Ngwaland.
Alex Otti graduated from the University of Port Harcourt with a First Class Honours Degree in Economics in 1988. He subsequently received an MBA from the University of Lagos in 1994. At the University of Port Harcourt, he was the best graduating student in the Department of Economics and won the subject prize.
He was also the best graduating student in the Faculty of Social Sciences and won the Dean's Prize, as well as the overall Best Graduating Student for the Year and Valedictorian. He started his banking career with Nigeria International Bank Limited, a subsidiary of Citibank N.Y. in 1989 where he worked in the Operations Department.
Nigeria’s first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, was represented at the occasion by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Mrs Precious Gbeneol.
Other dignitaries at the event include; Mr Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State, Igwe Alfred Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, the former Chief of Army Staff, retired Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, as well as Dr Walter Ofonagoro, the former Minister of Information.
The reception was organised by the Federation of All Traditional Rulers of Ngwa at Umueleghele in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.

Worshippers escape death in Owerri as police uncover explosives in Church

According to a breaking news report on Premium Times, two Improvised Explosive Devices was discovered at a church, Winners Chapel on Port Harcourt road in Owerri, Imo state this morning June 15th. The police defused the bomb after detecting them. The Commissioner of Police in Imo state, Abdumajid Ali, said they have arrested six suspects over the discovery of the explosives.
The police say they believe the explosives were planted on Saturday night and timed to explode after worshippers had gathered for worship today. Thankfully it was discovered on time. Details later
Update: Deputy Superintendent of Police Enwerem, explains more about the incident this morning. 
"During their check, it was discovered that Improvised Explosive Devices in forms of refrigerator compressor concealed in sack bags were discovered. One was promptly detonated at the scene because it was on a timer. The other one was dis-alarmed and then taken away for detonation.”
The police spokesperson said those arrested have not been directly linked to planting the deadly explosives.
“They were arrested because we believe we might be able to obtain information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators from them,” Mr. Enwerem said. “Investigations are ongoing.”
The state police commissioner, Mr. Ali had while briefing journalists at the church premises said the command would do everything possible to unravel the perpetrators of the act

15 dead as Boko Haram attacks market in Borno state

At least 15 people died today June 15th after suspected men of the Boko Haram sect launched an attack on traders at a local market in Daku village of Askira Uba LGA of Borno state around 11am.

Reports say the men numbering over 20 and armed with AK-47 rifles, Improvised Explosive Devices and petrol bombs stormed the market square on motorcycles and a Hilux Toyota vehicle, and opened fire at people in the market. Several shops, houses, vehicles and motorcycles were reportedly razed during the attack. After the attack, sources say the men then took foodstuffs and money from the traders.

Governor T. A. Orji bag awards in Houston Texas

Abia state Governor Chief� Theodore Orji has described the awards he received in the USA recently as not only motivating but equally encouraging and inspiring.
Abians in Houston Texas gave the Governor the Icon of Peace and security award, while the national association of Ndi Isuikwato in USA gave him the Pillar of Excellence award.
Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary Ugochukwu ��Emezue, the Governor said he was overwhelmed with the show of appreciation and solidarity shown to him by not only Abians but Ndigbo in the USA.
According to the Governor, he is determined to leave everlasting at the end of his tenure in 2015. Chief Orji stated that his preoccupation now is to ensure that the numerous projects he had embarked upon are completed on time.
He also hinted that he is doing his best to ensure that civil servants in the state are taken care of as exemplified in the new secretariat he is building. He also said that his decision to pay workers #20,100, and the introduction of new reforms are clear manifestation of his desire to reposition the civil service for greater productivity and efficiency.
Chief Orji declared that he will not look back in ensuring that Abia remains number one in terms of safety across the nation. He maintained that he will continue to support security agencies in the state with patrol vans, communication gadgets and other logistics.
Meanwhile the Governor has charged Umuopara people in the USA to remain good ambassadors of the state. The Governor gave the charged in a fund raising event in the USA. Chief Theodore Orji also urged them to partner with him in the development of the state. The Governor was represented by his Adviser on Diaspora matters Kingsley Megwara .

Kano reportedly boiling following announcement of Sanusi as new Emir

Going by the tweets of Jamil Abubakar, Son of Inspector General of Police, riot has broken out in Kano state following the announcement of former CBN governor Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the new Emir of Kano. According to his tweets, Jamil says the people of Kano are not happy with the announcement and are causing trouble in the town. He however says the situation has been brought under control and no life was lost.

Female suicide bomber attacks military facility in Gombe State

According to unconfirmed reports coming from Gombe state, a woman suicide bomber detonated a bomb this morning along Military Quarter Guard in Biu Road in Gombe State, killing herself. The bomb, which the woman was reportedly carrying in her purse, went off before she got to the Quarter Guard believed to be her target. Eye-witnesses believe that the bomb went off prematurely. There are reports that one soldier died in the explosion but there have so far been no official confirmation.

Boko Haram bombs bar & brothel joint in Adamawa state, 60 killed

According to a breaking news report by Sahara Reporters, Boko Haram men today June 1st bombed a bar and brothel located near a major military base in Mubi, Adamawa State, killing 60 people. Two security sources in the area told SaharaReporters that a horrendous explosion rocked the bar and brothel which usually teems with civilian and military patrons. The explosion happened close to 6 pm. Nigerian time, both sources said. Boko Haram men overwhelm vigilantes in Kalabalge, kill 40 villagers

Armed Boko Haram terrorists yesterday attacked Kalabalge, a community in Borno where vigilantes had recently repelled an attack by members of the extremist Islamist sect - and left a horrific scene, with at least 40 dead people and widespread destruction. A security agent and a community source told SaharaReporters that more than 500 Boko Haram fighters arrived in the town in numerous pick-up vans and were able to overwhelm local hunters and vigilante members within the community.
